Ada Durbin

Ada Durbin was the mother of Deanna. Ada's unmarried name was Read. She was born in Chester, England on the 8th of December, 1884.

Here is a photo of the city of Chester:



Ada's family eventually moved to the town of Oldham in Greater Manchester. She married James Durbin on the 18th of April, 1908.

Even though the Durbins had a cook, Ada still liked to bake. She specialized in the little mince pastries she learned to make when she was a bride and the little chocolate cookies decorated with half-cherries or chopped nuts which were favourites with Edith and Deanna.

After living at 10468 Lindbrook Drive in Los Angeles, Ada Durbin and her husband moved to Leisure World (Laguna Woods Village) which is a retirement community in California. She passed away on the 10th of June, 1972, and was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills.
