Deanna Durbin had a healthy appetite and enjoyed eating many types of different foods, but she was still able to stay nice and slim for the cameras:

Mind you, Deanna didn't like fish, mushrooms, and cauliflower.  No

And Deanna wasn't a big breakfast person - orange juice or hot chocolate was her usual, but her mother insisted serving Deanna bacon and eggs on working days.

One of Deanna's favourite snacks was slices of broiled crisp bacon and peanut butter between two slices of whole wheat bread!

Deanna also enjoyed bread, potatoes, salad, and spaghetti.

And according to Helen Parrish, she loved cream cheese and crackers. Smile

Deanna Durbin loved eating ice-cream. The hokeypokey man would go around Universal Studios and Deanna was his best customer.

She loved ice-cream so much that she even ate it between movie scenes. Cones would disappear when Deanna was about.

PROBLEM: Ice-cream cones cause spots on wardrobe costumes.

SOLUTION: Deanna wore a long apron for cone consuming.

It's no secret Deanna loved cookies. She was a growing girl in one of her early pictures. And there was a scene where there were a lot of cookies on a dinner table. When she thought no one was looking she sneaked up to the table and hastily gulped several of the largest cookies. As she was brushing away the tell tale crumbs a property man stepped from behind the scenery and informed her that not only had the cookies been kicking around the property department for weeks, but that they had also been sprinkled with fly spray!

And Deanna still enjoyed eating cookies in adulthood!!!

DEANNA DURBIN'S FUDGE CAKE RECIPE:

Cream one-half cup of butter with two cups of light brown sugar. Melt one-fourth of a large cake of baker's chocolate over hot water. Beat into first mixture. Add two unbeaten eggs. Beat well. Add one-half cup sour milk, two cups of sifted flour and mix perfectly smooth. Add one-half cup boiling water. Beat until perfectly blended. Add one teaspoon vanilla, one-eighth teaspoon salt, and one teaspoon soda dissolved in a little cold water. Bake in two layers. Put together with fudge and cover with same.

Deanna once said that she would rather eat a hamburger at home with a friend than go out to eat a steak alone.
