MOVIE SYNOPSIS:
Pretty Louise Ginglebusher is from a small town called Cobleskill and she is on her way to New York. After her arrival, she is walking down a busy street and the wind blows her hat off her head. A young man named George Prescott picks it up and returns it to her. Louise then decides to have lunch at a diner owned by a man named Joe Wechsberg. While she is waiting for her meal, George walks in who just happens to be Joe’s very honest lawyer. After lunch, Louise visits Mr. Buckingham who is the owner of a beautiful theatre and a friend of her late father. He offers her a job as an usherette which she gladly accepts. After work one night, Joe informs Louise that he is going to be a waiter at the elegant Savoy Ritz. Joe decides to take Louise with him even though she isn’t invited. At the party, Louise’s false invitation is discovered, so Joe pretends that she is there as part of the entertainment. Louise meets wealthy Conrad Nelson who instantly takes a liking to her. She tells him that she is married to George Prescott, so Conrad decides to help him and then secure their divorce. Conrad visits George’s office and offers him a job as his legal representative which he accepts. On his way out, Conrad sees Louise and asks her out on a date. Louise begins to feel guilty because she is misleading George into thinking that he got the job with Conrad on his own merits. George is excited about his new job and takes Louise car shopping with him. Their friendship begins to blossom and George even shaves off his beard to keep Louise happy. George then proposes to her, but she tells him that he doesn’t know her very well. Meanwhile, Joe isn’t happy about George’s new job and confronts Louise about it. During her date with Conrad, Louise confesses that she is not married to George which causes Conrad to feel betrayed. When George arrives on the scene, Conrad tells him that he only got the job because of Louise’s marriage story. George is so upset with Louise that he storms out of the room. Weeks later, Conrad tells George that he still has the job. It was George’s honest and excellent work that had exposed the crooked dealings of Conrad's Board of Directors and saved his company a lot of money. Conrad then tells George that Joe has opened a new French restaurant and invites him to the opening. As Louise is singing at the restaurant, George walks in and they end up in each other’s arms.

I'LL BE YOURS was the first movie Deanna Durbin made after the birth of her daughter, Jessica Louise Jackson:

I'LL BE YOURS was a remake of THE GOOD FAIRY (1935) starring Herbert Marshall and Margaret Sullavan. On 31 July, 1944, Deanna Durbin, Fredric March, and June Lockhart acted in a 30 minute CBS radio adaptation of the THE GOOD FAIRY.

Here are some mistakes in I'LL BE YOURS:

Just before Louise's hat is blown off her head, she is standing at a crosswalk waiting for a policeman to blow his whistle. When she starts to walk, a man with a black eye patch walks at the same time, but the next camera shot shows him again after George gives Louise her hat.

When Conrad visits George's office he sits down in a chair with a missing slat, but when he gets up, there is no missing slat. At first the chair with the missing slat is on the right side of the door, (as seen by us). But when Louise enters on her own, the chair with the missing slat is on the left side of the door. Then soon after the chair with the missing slat is back on the right side of the door.

George hurriedly throws an apron and a banana skin into his desk drawer in his office when Conrad pays him a visit. Soon after when Louise visits George, he opens the same drawer again looking for scissors, but now the apron is missing.

In George's office, there is a sign on the wall stating "Thee who lies shall rot." The sign should correctly state "Thou who liest shalt rot."

Another sign on the wall is stating "Honesty is the best policy." The sign should correctly state "Honesty is the only policy."

And here is a pun in I'LL BE YOURS when Louise the usherette says, "Aisle B to your left, please."

MEMORABLE LINES:

Conrad says to Louise, "You have no idea how much easier it is to endure unhappiness with money in the bank!"

Deanna Durbin and Adolphe Menjou first worked together in the 1937 movie called 100 MEN AND A GIRL:

I'LL BE YOURS was in production from the middle of August to the middle of October in 1946 and was released on the 2nd February, 1947. It was marketed with "Heaven protects the working girl, but who protects the guy she's working to get?"
